In 1995, as the Metropolitan Wind Symphony began celebrating our twenty-fifth anniversary season, we made the first public announcement of a major new project: the Metropolitan Wind Symphony Commissioning Fund. A very generous anonymous donor gave a substantial amount of money as a permanent endowment, its income to be used only for commissioning new pieces for the Wind Symphony. We were able to obtain two major new commissions for that season and we have since continued to bring new works to our players and to our audience.
Our goal in making this CD is to share these commissions with a wider audience in the hope that other bands will be inspired to perform and to share this music with their audiences and to commission new works themselves.
