We will open with music from the early days of the silver screen, beginning with music from the pen of Erich Korngold, the John Williams of the early "talkie" days: highlights from his famed score for the 1940 Errol Flynn film, The Sea Hawk. We follow that with the first major piece on the program, Julie Giroux's exciting La Mezquita de Cordoba (The Mosque of Cordoba.) Though La Mezquita is not in itself movie music, Ms. Giroux is a very fine orchestrator and composer of film scores. Next we will screen the famed Parade of the Charioteers from Ben-Hur, while playing the never-to-be-forgotten music Miklos Rozsa wrote for that iconic scene. We'll close the first half with Eric Whitaker's riotous and campy Godzilla Eats Las Vegas. The second half will feature another screening, the 1929 Laurel and Hardy silent film, Double Whoopee, while we play period silent movie music. We'll close with Paul Hart's original piece, Cartoon.
