This concert will consist of some of Lew's favorite pieces—Alfred Reed's Camino Real, Mvt I of Eric Whitacre's Ghost Train, and de Meij's rollicking At Kitty O'Shea's—and some music he will conduct for the first time—three movements of Julie Giroux's Bookmarks from Japan, Giroux's brand new gorgeous, lyrical Riften Wed, Adam Gorbe's A Little Tango Music, and Bartok's Roumanian Folk Dances. Finally, in celebration of Lew's 10th anniversary with us, we commissioned James Curnow to compose a brand new trumpet solo for him. Lew will close the first half of the concert by turning the baton over to Associate Director James O'Dell and picking up the trumpet to present the world premiere performance of this new work. As usual in our Spring Concert, students of the many MetWinds teachers will join us after intermission.
