Two classic, traditional band works, Percy Grainger’s Mock Morris and Gordon Jacob’s Original Suite, will open the Spring Concert, followed by the world premier of a brand new MWS-commissioned work by a young composer, Matthew LaRocca. Matthew is the co-winner of the 2011 Student Composer Competition, and we are very excited to bring you his new piece. Matthew’s world premiere will be followed immediately by 12-year-old wunderkind Geoffrey Gallante, trumpet soloist, performing conductor Lewis Buckley’s Yellow Rose of Texas Variations. If you don’t know Geoff’s amazing work as a soloist, check him out on YouTube, and you’ll be astonished! Morton Gould’s paean to the American West, Santa Fe Saga, will close the half. Then we’ll welcome the students of MWS members to join us in four wonderful works by Rossano Galante, Robert Sheldon, David Maslanka, and Frank Ticheli.
