Celebrate winter with the MWS as we feature music from around the world. Shostakovich's lively Folk Dances will take us to Russia, Chance's Variations on a Korean Folk Song brings us to the unique tonality of the East, Arnold's Four Scottish Dances will have us in the northern part of England, and Gershwin's An American in Paris not only will have you at the base of the Eiffel Tower and fill you with romance, but evoke images of Gene Kelly dancing. Virtuoso flutist Julia Scolnik will tranport you to Hungary and France and charm you with her interpretations of Doppler's Hungarian Fantasy and Delibes's lovely Duet from Lakme. The pre-concert lecture* will be given by rocket scientist, sailor, and world traveller Volker Tolls of Harvard University.
