Fall Concert: A Potpourri of Colors

33 Marrett Road Lexington, MA 02421 - free parking
    2:30pm Pre-Concert Talk

Our Fall Concert is characterized by variety and different sounds, hence the Potpourri. Tomlinson’s Suite of English Folk Song Dances is a wind band piece in the traditional sense; Copland’s El Salon Mexico represents 20th century orchestral composition at its exciting best; Mason Bates’ Mothership is a contemporary wind band composition whose title says it all; and the Finale to Dvorak’s beloved New World Symphony needs no introduction to you, representing as it does the warmth of late 19th century romanticism. We will also have a visit by Captain Kenneth Megan, USCG(Ret.), Lew’s successor as director of the Coast Guard Band. He will conduct two pieces in the first half and then will hilariously narrate the famed poem Casey at the Bat. He grew up in Boston, so to say he’s a Red Sox fan puts it mildly!
